the unit walks a hexagonal grid. each step is one cell in the current heading. buys keep the heading, sells turn it clockwise by one sixth of a turn. the plate below is every cell silas has stood on, reconstructed from the platters and the heading changes logged on pip. nothing here is drawn until the body account exists.
walking rules
the heading only changes on a sell heavy step. the body keeps a running net volume since the last step, buys positive and sells negative. at the moment of a step, if that number is negative the heading increments by one modulo six before the move, then the number resets to zero. if it is zero or positive the heading holds. a step always moves exactly one cell. the unit cannot move backwards and cannot stand still while a step is being paid for.
distinct cells are counted on the body. the full path is not stored on chain. it is rebuilt here from the sequence of headings implied by the heading change log, which records the odometer value at each turn, and the total odometer. between two turns the unit moved in a straight line, so the browser draws the line segment by segment. if pip's log has wrapped, the oldest part of the path is unknown and the plate begins at the earliest turn it still has, which is noted under the plate when it happens.
